James King is a speculative designer and the principle at Science Practice, a design company that partners with researchers in the biological sciences to investigate the implications of biotechnology for society.
James produces objects, films and images that have been exhibited widely, most notably at MoMA in New York and the Wellcome Trust in London. James also presents his work regularly at scientific meetings and conferences.
The most rewarding aspect of these collaborations has been the opportunity, not just to interpret scientific process, but to augment it. Design is an implicit but unrecognised aspect of science. Through further collaborations and projects James aims to build an explicit role for design as part of scientific practice.
