Calligraphy

On Friday 8th Feb, stage 4 Communication Design students took part in a Calligraphy workshop with Dr Manny Ling.  In addition to exploring mark-making and lettering techniques, the final year students experimented with found objects and made nibs from manipulated materials.  These turned out to be surprisingly good drawing implements that inventively challenged the students.  The workshop culminated in a lecture that featured Manny’s personal work. As a guest of the school we benefited from his research and professional practice as a creative calligrapher and academic and the students thoroughly enjoyed their time with him.

Dr Manny Ling is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media at the University of Sunderland.
